REACTIONS: Reference checks are an odd beast - many organizations do them, but don't really devote the time, thought and resources to make them meaningful. Others skip them entirely. If you are going to do them, make sure that you make the effort to do them well. Reading this blog reminded me that a solid reference check is as involved (and lengthy) as a candidate interview.
