Some insights into how Microsoft's new Leader started changing the culture from toxic to productive.
REACTIONS: Communication style is both important but also often overlooked. Most folks focus on what they've said - not what's been heard and focus much less on the tone that was heard. Nadella, the incoming leader of Microsoft, felt that the start of cultural change would be via the change in how people communicated to each other and he started with his Leadership Team.
VERDICT: SKIM IT. We applaud any attempts to improve communication, but this felt more like a plug for the book vs. a helpful case study. The blurbs about the suggested changes in communication styles were helpful, but there was no discussion of the impact - both personally and with the business - of the challenges involved with implementing the changes.
